About

In a world of lies and tarnished ideals, sometimes all you can do is laugh at it. In 'Banana Republic' a group of young friends try to rebuild the world one sharehouse at a time when they start up a commune at home. Drawing inspiration from television sitcoms, the play takes a light-hearted look at serious issues.

Alexander Duncan    as Geoff

Alex graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts last year- Banana Republic is his fourth show this year and his first in the Melbourne Fringe. In March, Alex played Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream with Winterfall Theatre. He appeared in Shotgun Wedding with No Show for the 2012 Next Wave festival, a piece that took two strangers from the audience and married them- and, in fact, through complete coincidence, married Anthony Noack, the writer of this show. Before Banana Republic, Alex had just been involved in Redroom Theatre's Himmelweg as part of the Theatreworks season for 2012. In Himmelweg, Alex played a Red Cross representative visiting a concentration camp in World War II- needless to say, it's nice to be doing another comedy. Alex has also played Camillo in A Winter's Tale, Lloyd in Mud by Maria Irene Fornez, Stef in The Golden Age by Louis Nowra and Bobby in the musical Urinetown. Alex has also worked as a playwright in ATYP's Fresh Ink writer's program in 2008, as a singer/songwriter for Loud Music and various theatre productions and has appeared in Battlefield, a short film by Tim Marshall which has appeared in film festivals this year in San Fransisco, Berlin, Los Angeles and Italy. Later this year, Alex will be starring in Tim Marshall's next short film, Gorilla.
